The Year of Luigi Edition of Mario Bros unlocked in Super Mario 3D World

How to Unlock Luigi Bros.
This year, 2013, is Luigi's year. As a celebration, Nintendo offers a special episode in Super Mario 3D World for all Luigi fans. That is, to unlock a particular edition of the Mario Bros. original where all characters are Luigi.

How to unlock? First you need to buy a copy of New Super Luigi U and secure a save file on your Wii U console. This will automatically unlock Luigi Bros. Play it by clicking on the Luigi icon on the the leftside corner of the touch screen of your Gamepad.

The alternative and significantly more challenging way is to beat Worlds 1-8 in Super Mario 3D World - but this does mean you don't have to put your hand in your pocket for New Super Luigi U if you don't want it..

What are the Hidden Luigis for?
There are quite a number of 8-bit Luigis scattered throughout the whole Super Mario 3D World. You'll see them everywhere by using binoculars at some instances or while hitting blocks. (He even peers through the window of some Sprixie Stamp houses) They don't affect your game whatsoever. They're just there for show. You don't receive any reward or stars for finding them. In short, they don't matter they're just a nice novelty. It gives us a warm fuzzy feeling to know that 8 bit Luigi is with us in spirit.

Unlocking Rosalina in Super Mario 3D World

Unlocking Rosalina
Rosalina, from Super Mario Galaxy, is one of the five main characters in Super Mario 3D World. She has a special Spin Attack, which you can use while moving, jumping or just standing still, but cannot use with some Power-up. She can also jump as high as Luigi. If you want to unlock her, you just need to beat World Star-2.

What Are Warp Pipes for?
Do you want arrive at somewhere that quickly? Get inside a Warp Pipe and you'll be at the next section of the map before you know it.

Are you still in World 1-2 but wanted to go to World 2 that badly? Climb the wall and find a warp pipe to get you there.

From World 4-2 to World 5? It`s possible with a warp pipe. Upon reaching the Checkpoint Flag, get out of the cave to find the Roulette Block. Climb the wall above it. There, you can find the warp pipe that will take you to World 5.

Infinite lives in Super Mario 3D World
Wanna have max lives of 1,110? Beat Goomba in World 1-2. Destroy all purple blocks below the patrolling Koopa Troopa and jump on to its head to grab its shell. Throw the shell on the wall. Jump and let your character make contact with the shell as it bounces back and forth the wall. Repeat this until you get all those 1-Ups. You can check out a video of this below:-

How do I earn the five bonus Stamps in Super Mario 3D World?
Complete all level with any of the characters to get five bonus stamps in Super Mario 3D World. If you're playing multiplayer, you can achieve it quickly.

How do I unlock levels in Super Mario 3D World?
The more level you complete in this game, the more stuff you unlock. Furthermore, the more Stars especially Green stars are required to play the next level. Here's a list of requirements:

  • World 1-Castle: 10 Stars

  • World 2-2: 15 Stars

  • World 3-2: 30 Stars

  • World 4-Castle: 50 Stars

  • World 5-3: 80 Stars

  • World 6-3: 100 Stars

  • World 7-Castle: 130 Stars

  • World 8-Castle: 170 Stars

  • World Star-9: 210 Stars

  • World Mushroom-7: 240 Stars

How do I achieve Star Ratings?

As you progress in playing Super Mario 3D World, you can see Rating Stars on your save file. Five stars mean perfect completion, meaning, you beat every level and reach its goal.

  • 1 Star – means you completed World 1 to 8. Doesn't matter if you used the secret warp pipes.

  • 2 Stars –means you collected all the Green Stars in World 1 to 8.

  • 3 Stars –means you beat World Flower , World Star, and World Mushroom.

  • 4 Stars –means you get all the Green Stars from World 1 up to World 11

  • 5 Stars –means you have done everything required to get the first four Star Ratings plus the other goals—complete all levels with every character hero, collected all the Green Stars and Stamps and reach the goal poles of World 1 to 11.

How do I get Sparkling Stars?

Invincibility Leaf prevents you from getting the Sparkling Stars so you have to do your best to avoid it. Hit the block without even touching this item. Once you do, a Sparkling Star is waiting for you at the top of the flagpole. Hurry and get it!

Tip: Don't lose all five lives and the Invincibility Leaf will not appear.

Dr. Luigi limited edition cleaning cloths coming soon to Club Nintendo Japan

Bacteria Busting cloths, by Dr. Luigi & Club Nintendo

We thought that Dr. Luigi coming out on the 31st of December 2013 to the Wii U e-Shop would be the closing statement of the year of Luigi.

Actual-game-wise, that is indeed the case, however Nintendo have given us one more token of Luigi themed goodness to look forward to - Club Nintendo Japan will be releasing Dr. Luigi cleaning cloths on the 15th of January 2014 in memory of this most momentous year of the green guys gaming.

These germ eliminating cloths will set you back 200 club Nintendo points each, unless you buy the cloths namesake Dr. Luigi game from the eShop in which case you can get these cloths for only 100 points. The cloths each measure approx 13cm x 13cm and have been made in a limited number (figures unknown as yet) and once they're gone, they're gone.

Here's hoping this isn't another nice little Nintendo collectable that doesn't make it outside of Japan.

Nooo, as if I just got home from work to read that Danny Wells, the gentleman who you may better know as Luigi from the live action sketches of the Super Mario Bros Super Show Cartoon has sadly passed away at 72 years old in his native Montreal, Canada.

This follows the sad passing of his co-star Lou Albano who died at 76 years old in 2009.

Both of these guys will have touched the lives of many people who were growing up in the generation of the Mario Cartoons and many who didn't watch them til later on.

Danny Wells (left) as Luigi, and Lou Albano (right) as Mario in "NEATNESS COUNTS" the first live action sketch of the Super Mario Bros Super Show in 1989.

Very sad indeed. May these two very cool & memorable people rest in peace. Condolences to Dannys family, friends and fans. :-(

In today's Nintendo Direct its been announced that Rosalina, one of the most popular "new" characters in the Mario universe is going to be a playable character in both Super Smash Bros U / 3DS AND Mario Kart 8; as well as already being a bonus character in Super Mario 3D World for Wii U.

In Super Smash Bros (U / 3DS) Rosalina will be accompanied by her extra terrestrial counterpart; Luma.

In Mario Kart 8 Rosalina is one of a small assortment of newly revealed playable characters today alongside Baby Mario and Baby Luigi. Other information revealed today on Mario Kart 8 demonstrated new kart types like Quad-Bike esque ATV's and UFO's to compliment the already varied roster of standard karts and bikes. And if that wasn't enough they've also shown us a couple of new tracks including an airport and a sky desert course. I can already imagine how stressed I am going to be about being knocked off an upside down anti gravity track by a Boeing 747.

That means she's actually a playable character more times in the current gen titles than Princess Daisy? Shes gonna be pissed, of this I have no doubt.

Dr... Luigi?
Further to this there is also a Luigi remix of Dr.Mario coming out to continue the Year of Luigi, aptly titled "Dr. Luigi" - did you see that coming? This title will be launched and available to buy on the Nintendo eShop from 31/12/2013.

As with the classic Dr. Mario that its modelled on this game requires players to line up pills to neutralise viruses but this is no half spun mini game and "Nintendo being lazy", the new game will feature full Wii U gamepad integration and most importantly for me an online play mode so aspiring virus destroying Doctors from around the world can vye for supremacy against people from all around the world. "But omg! What if I get trolled" - Then live with it or play someone else; Good times.

There was't a lot to be said about the upcoming 3DS title Yoshi's New Island other than that it is being produced by Takashi Tezuka; recognise the name? I do, from the credits in Super Mario World on the SNES my all time fave game. He was the creative director for that title.

Super Mario 3D World Playthrough / All Green Stars

On another note, you can look forward to our Super Mario 3D World all stars, all stamps playthrough of World 3 in HD by Friday the 20th; hope you find it useful; world 3 level 2, star 2, I have never died so much in a Mario game trying to work out how to do that; and the solution was so simple :-( Sigh.
