Yoshi's Cookie Review

Challenge: 10 (out of 10)

Yoshi's Cookie is one of the most interesting games on SNES. The object is to get rid of the cookies by making a complete row of them. Use the Control Pad to move the cursor and A plus Control Pad to move the cookies around. Sound easy? Well, more cookies keep on coming onto the field. If they crowd up the board, you lose! It can easily be the most challenging game you've ever played.

Play Modes: 9 (out of 10)

There are three modes, each of which has the same basic controls, but with rules varying enough to make them all seem different. The first is Action mode, a solo game where you must clear levels by getting rid of the cookies. The second is Vs, a two-player game where you get a point by clearing a row. First to get 25 points wins! Along the way, you can use attacks like Blind (which covers the cookies) or Slave (which lets you move the opponents cursor!) to try to win. You must clear a row of Yoshi cookies to use an attack. Finally there's Puzzle, which gives you a limited amount of switches to clear all the cookies. It gets challenging quickly!

Graphics: 10 (out of 10)

The graphics are great! In Action mode, Mario holds one lever while Yoshi holds the other. As you move the cookies around, they will move their levers around in the direction you push the Control Pad! Very nice touch. There are also some great background pictures taken from Super Mario World. All in all, a nice game as far as graphics are concerned.

Sound: 10 (out of 10)

If there's anything more important than good graphics, it's good music to accompany them. Fortunately for Yoshi's Cookie the music is very good. My favorite is Vs mode's B music, which somehow reminds me of a circus. All the music is good however.

Fun Factor: 8 (out of 10)

I don't mean to be harsh, but once you've played it for a while, Action mode can get a little tiring. You'll probably only want to play it to see the cinema scenes, which are pretty funny. The Vs mode, however, can be pretty fun once you're good at it, so I'll give it a 5. Yoshi eating a cookie

Conclusion: If you like puzzles, or just want to try a classic game, get Yoshi's Cookie. Trust me, it's very fun.
