Mario and friends team up with the faceless explorer Indiana Joe and go after the Lost Mushroom, a statue that grants wishes. But King Koopa claims he's the heir to the Lost Mushroom and goes after the Mario's with his gang.

Mario receives a letter from a woman named Roxanne which gives him the impression that he's obligated to marry her due to a promise he made to her long ago.
