Alternate ending sequence
Beat all cups including all cups in mirror mode to a "One Star" or better level in order to unlock an alternative ending sequence.
Alternate credits sequence
Win all trophies in any of the speed classes to get an alternate credits sequence showing your Mii with Princess and Mario as well as an additional congratulations screen
Mirror mode
To unlock mirror mode you must complete every cup at 150cc, you then get to race on all the tracks backwards.
Quick recovery
When you are hit with a shell / blown up etc and your kart is sent into the air, press 2 exactly as you are landing, and it'll give you a mini-boost to help you regain your momentum quicker.
Quick recovery (bike)
When you are hit or run into something - do a wheelie straight after to quickly regain speed
Quick start
When "2" begins to disappear in the 3-2-1 countdown at the start of a race hold down "2" to get a boost.
Staff Ghosts get an upgrade
To race against the ghosts of Nintendo's finest, beat the normal ghosts by 7 seconds or more to unlock the expert ghost mode.

| Bowser Jr. | Beat all Retro Cups at 100cc speed with a "One Star" rank or above |
| Daisy | Win the special cup at 150cc |
| Diddy Kong | Beat all Retro Cups at 50cc |
| Dry Bones | Win leaf cup at 100cc |
| Funky Kong | Unlock four Expert staff ghosts in time trial mode. |
| King Boo | Win star cup in 50cc mode |
| Mii 1 | Win special cup at 100cc |
| Mii 2 | Unlock all 32 of the Expert Staff Ghosts in time trial mode. |
| Rosalina |
1. Win the Wii cup series with a "One star" rank or above 2. OR if you have a saved file from Super Mario Galaxy you just need to win 50 Grand Prix races. |
| Toadette | Win 1000 Wi-Fi races, or play through all 32 courses in time trial mode. |
