Top 10 Super Mario games of all-time
- Written by Luke Hackett
Seeing as Super Mario Run managed to single-handedly shake up the mobile gaming market, it’s the perfect time to have a look back over the top ten Mario games of all-time!
Super Mario Bros
Few games have contributed so much to the industry as this 1985 classic. The sideways scrolling adventures may have similarities with other games of the era, but it was the progressive gameplay that subtly rewarded the user that made this a world-beater.
Super Mario 64
This endlessly enjoyable game fascinated gamers of all ages thanks to the way that it taught us how to use the gamepad’s analog stick to guide Mario through a bright and colourful 3D environment.
Super Mario Land
It’s easy to forget that Nintendo also had a part to play in the handheld gaming revolution. And what better way for gamers in 1989 to get to grips with that futuristic concept than by playing Super Mario Land on their compact Gameboy.
Super Mario Run
2016 showed us that Mario is nothing if not adaptable. And Super Mario Run marked our hero’s first mobile gaming adventure that marks just the start of Nintendo’s mobile gaming assault.
Super Mario 3D World
This beautifully designed game introduced many Nintendo fans to the delight of the Wii U, and with Lucky Nugget Casino stating how Mario could feature in the game bundle for the upcoming Nintendo Switch, it shows how the stocky Italian plumber is still a great ambassador for the brand.
Super Mario World
Not only did it introduce Yoshi, but Super Mario World became a landmark game for the SNES thanks to its fully-realised characters and the way that it hinted at our open-world futures.
New Super Mario Bros
Nintendo’s always had a healthy supply of handheld fun, and the Nintendo DS certainly got its share thanks to the sideways-scrolling delights of New Super Mario Bros that even included a cool multiplayer option.
Super Mario Galaxy
This great game for the Wii shows just how adaptable the Mario franchise is with some great space-inspired themes and powerful gravity gameplay mechanics.
Super Mario Bros 3
Whilst Super Mario Bros 2 was a little underwhelming, it seems that Nintendo got it right with its follow-up that’s apparently been scientifically proven to be one the best games of all-time!
Super Mario RPG: Legend of Seven Stars
This turn-based RPG once again shows us how Mario is capable of so much more than just platforming, and whilst he might not be the star of the casino games yet, it’s surely just a matter of time!
