Super Mario RPG Review

I finally got a chance to beat it. I was playing this game all the time, but every time I would get to the end, my file would erase.

Well, just recently, I got a chance to beat it. And, I now can say for sure that this game is definitely one of my favourites. Square and Nintendo really did well on this one. I wonder on why they didn't have many other chance to make more games like these. This one is truly great, for so many reasons, it's hard to sum them all up in one review, but here I go.

Graphics: 10 (out of 10)
These are definitely some of the best graphics on SNES period. The kind of 3D effect that they tried to put in the game worked, and it worked well. Great variety of colours, and animations, along with some good looking spell effects that look well done. The look and feel of the graphics fits with this game almost perfectly. Another great point of these graphics, is the detail, which a lot of the time is plentiful.

There is rarely a point in the game that looks of feels dull because of the lack of detail. Characters look great, as well as unique and well designed enemies and bosses. This truly is a high point of the game, and it may even be a reason to play again.

Some say that these graphics are better than Chrono Trigger because of the 3D look that Super Mario RPG has. Well, the graphics could be said about even, because of the different styles that they both use. You could say this game looks more cartoonish, and Chrono Trigger takes the style of a more anime kind of effect.

Sound & Music: 9 (out of 10)
First of all, let's get onto the sound of this game, which is pretty good. You even have classic sounds such as when Mario jumps, it will make a sound that's very close to the sound of when he jumps in any other previous games. Sounds in this game fit well, and don't really sound that bad. Sounds with the spells are great, as well with regular physical attacks. There isn't much to complain about here. I don't think there really is much wrong.

Now, the Music, which I would say is above average. You can hear, just as with the sounds, some remixed classic tunes, along with some great new ones. A lot are even catchy. My brother who hasn't played this game in a long time still remembers the tune to the last boss, just because of how well done it is. And, you shouldn't mind having it stuck in your head that much. I would beat the last boss more then once just to hear the music. Music in towns is good, along with the regular battles and boss battles. Nothing should feel out of place. This part of the game, like many other parts, is a high point. Great, well done sounds and tunes overall.

Story: 9 (out of 10)
This has to be by far the best, most deep and thrilling story a Mario game has ever had! It's much different then any story seen by a Mario game. It starts off pretty much the same as any though - the Princess has been kidnapped, and Mario goes to save her. While in Bowser's Keep, Mario and Bowser duke it out. Mario wins, and the Princess is going to be saved. Then, the Castle begins to shake. A massive Sword from the sky falls into Bowser's Keep, along with Seven Stars that fall throughout the land. Where's Princess and Bowser? And why's there a huge Sword in the castle? It get's so much better then this, and really should pull you in to see how everything unfolds.

Game play: 9 (out of 10)
The Game play of this game really is great in a lot of ways. Let's get started with a major point - the battles. Let's start with Timed Hits. Timed hits are a very important aspect of this game, and they make it fun and interesting. To do a Timed Hit, you must press A before you hit the enemy. If done right, you will have done an extra attack that will do mare damage. Not all weapons will show the extra attack, but you will know if you have done it right if a big star will quickly flash on the enemy. Timed Hits also go for spells, and you can also use it by pressing A right before an enemy attacks to boost your defence. Nice huh? When you get into a battle, you get the option to press the following buttons on the controller. Let's get into some detail here as well:

A - By pressing this, you have the option to attack physically. This is what you should be using most, for this involves easy to do Timed Hits.

X - This gives you your menu of item that you can use during battle. If you press X right at a certain time while it's being used, you could get a freebie, in which you can keep the item, after you've used it!

Y - This is the option to use magic. Now, instead of each having a certain amount of FP (Flower points), you all share the same amount. Everyone gets a few spells, the most being six max, and the least being four. Spells are interesting, because the is usually a twist to them such as, to make the spell more effective, you must press Y continually and such.

B - This is Defend and Run Away.

Another good part of the game play id the amount of fun mini-games you can play. I could continue to get into detail, but there is a lot of game play. I don't know If I could fit it all. Let's just say that it's very very good.

Replay Value: 9 (out of 10)
I know this game has a lot of replay value, because I've played it many times in attempt to beat it. I wouldn't mind playing again, because it's a fun game that is interesting, and very entertaining.

Overall: 9 (out of 10)Mallow, the elite of sidekicks!
A ten would be great, but it doesn't quite make it to the brink of perfection.

Last Comment: This is a fun game, with a small challenge here or there. Very fun to the end, and I recommend it to all.
