Mario Party 5 Review

So here we are with the fifth (and hopefully last) installment of the Mario Party series. This series is the basis for party games. The newest has new features, new mini-games, and all new boards, but they seem to be running out of ideas, so I think they should not make any more. But here's how the newest one is...

Graphics:
The graphics are basicly what they were in Mario Party 4, with a few minor touch-ups. Now much to say in this category, except it isn't as integrant as the Gamecube can be, which is shown by Super Smash Brothers Melee. But the graphics are good enough for the purposes they serve.

Sound/Music: Not very good in this category, I'm afraid. All the music is repetitive, so you listen to the exact same thing over and over and over, which can get annoying. The music probably won't get on your nerves though, which is good. Some of the music is not that bad, like the Chain Chomp music, but for the most part, you won't be listening to it in Options mode.

Gameplay: Still great, just like the other Mario Party games. Main goal, go around the game board and try to collect stars. The person with the most stars at the end wins. At the end of each turn, you play a mini-game, which are the main part of the game. They vary from long jumps to catching falling ice cream to shooting Bullet Bills at you're opponents while on a spinning platform. These mini-games have lots of different kinds, and they're all fun, with the exception of one or two, which are just pure luck. The game-boards are very well done, and each has it's own layout and special features. On the boards, you can get capsules for free.

These capsules replace the items in the other games, and they are better, in my opinion. You don't have to pay any to get them, and which one you get is completely random, but they don't cost any money to use, unless you're using it on yourself. If you throw it onto a space, anyone who lands on that space will be effected by the capsule that was thrown there. Capsules include traditional items, like the warp pipe and mushroom, and new ones, like hammer bros and piranha plants. These are well thought up, and they all do different things.Mario

Other: The super-duel mode, in which you build a machine from different parts and then battle other machines, is mostly only fun with your friends. The story mode is only good the first time, because it's only duel mini-games, but you do get something special the first time. The bonus and mini-game modes are very good, by yourself or with others (but especially with others).

Rent or buy:
Buy, if you really like Mario Party. If not, you might not like this game, but if you want to try it out, then I'd say you should rent it. My score for this game is 10 out of 10.
